and Directors
Deborah Deschamps-Baker, President
Deborah has been involved with horses
for over 30 years. A graduate of Potomac Horse Center, with a
British Horsemaster's Certificate, Deborah showed Hunters, Dressage,
and Event Horses for many years, and owned and operated a boarding
and training stable on Cape Cod. She has worked and ridden with some
of the top trainers around the country. Deborah currently shows
paint and Quarter Horses in English and Western Performance and
Cutting competitions.
Marian White, Secretary
Marian is a breeder of Navajo-Churro
sheep, an endangered breed from New Mexico. She has owned and ridden
horses for many years. She is employed with the State of Vermont as
a policy analyst for the Agency of Agriculture. Marian has an MBA
from Dartmouth College and an MSEL from Vermont Law School.
Cheryl Pratt Rivers, Treasurer
Cheryl Pratt Rivers lives in Stockbridge Vermont and operates River
Echo Morgan Horse farm with her husband Richard and son Nathan. Her
pride and joy is her stallion River Echo Hamilton who is a champion
in competitive trail, combined driving, and winner of many Morgan
trotting races.
Cheryl has been involved with horses all her life having grown up at
the University of Vermont Morgan Horse Farm where her father was a
trainer. She has competed successfully at top Morgan horse shows.
Currently she is more apt to be found at open competitive trail,
carriage driving, and combined driving competitions where horses she
has raised or trained are excelling. She is the trainer and
instructor at River Echo Morgan’s which accepts all breeds of horses
and ponies for harness and saddle training. She gives both riding
and driving instruction and particularly enjoys introducing horses
and their people to the world of carriage driving. Cheryl served as
a State Senator from Windsor County for 11 years where she served on
the Senate Agriculture Committee and took the lead on equine policy
issues.
Jane Peno,
Jane was born and raised on Cape Cod and graduated from
New England College in Henniker NH with a BA in Business
Administration. She spent many years working in Boston until
recently returning to the Cape. She is currently employed at
IFAW the International Fund for Animal Welfare in Yarmouth Ma.
After years of waiting, in
2003 Jane adopted her first horse from HAS. Jackson has a great new
home and Jane has the horse she dreamed of all her life. The pair
enjoy spending their time trail riding
Sharon Gallacher,
Sharon is a native to
Chelsea where she is employed at HEB manufacturing . She is
secretary for the Chelsea Alumni Association and bookkeeper for her
husbands plumbing business. She and husband Steve are crazy about
their cats, caring for their own as well as the local strays that
stop by their house.
